Sunday Salon: ALA, new computers, and more

Greetings! I am blogging this from my brand new computer. No more will I be a victim to my computer's slow and painful death! No more I say! I still need to do my spreadsheet post and also do my 2009 wrap up! But I need to wait until my files finish transferring from my old computer. Also, I made the switch from PC to Mac. It's taking awhile to get used to. What the @#@$% is this command key? Where's my page down key? What do you mean I can't forward delete. Ah well. The biggest thing is that the key board is just a slightly different size, so my typing is suffering as I adjust.

In the meantime, how about some predictions for tomorrow when the ALA Youth Media Awards are announced?

Caldecott:

The Lion and Mouse by Jerry Pinkney. Hands down.

I'm also a big fan of The Negro Speaks of Rivers.

Newbery:

I'm not sure who will win and who will honor, but I'm pretty sure these books will be there:

When You Reach Me
Where the Mountain Meets the Moon
Claudette Colvin: Twice Towards Justice
Evolution of Calpurnia Tate

Siebert:

Claudette Colvin will win. Day-Glo Brothers and Frog Scientist will honor.

Coretta Scott King illustrator:

The Negro Speaks of Rivers

Printz:

Not sure which will win and which will honor but we'll see the following on the list:

Marcelo in the Real World
WIntergirls
If I Stay

The New YALSA nonfiction award:

Claudette Colvin

Last year, I had fun letting the kids see the possible Caldecott winners and choose their favorite. They were very surprised with the eventual winner.

I can't wait to see who wins tomorrow.

Congrats on your new Mac. I love mine with an almost embarrassing passion.

It will be interesting to see who wins the awards. I'm horrible at guessing these things so I'm eager for tomorrow to come.

Congrats on your new computer. I had a hard computer year last year myself. It's a pain. Always thought how hard it would be go switch from PC to Mac. I've always heard Mac was better with graphic/design & PC is good with Words/Doc & business etc. I do love the sizes of the Mac laptops though. :) Happy computing I'm sure you'll get the hang of it eventually.

I'm excited for the winners!!!

I switched to a Mac about a year-and-a-half ago, and I luuuuuurve it! Seriously, I try to go on my husband's PC every once in a while, and I can't even figure out what to do. It's not like it's that vastly different, but things just don't seem right. I hope you are happy with yours!

What happened to Printz this year? Was the committee drunk? How did they leave IF I STAY and WINTERGIRLS off the list? Okay, okay, LHA has enough awards, but IF I STAY was so amazing... where's my dislike button?
