Frank Buckles passed away last week. He was the US's last living WWI veteran. Today's Poetry Friday offering is in honor of Mr. Buckles and everyone who served in WWI.
My Boy Jack
“Have you news of my boy Jack?”
Not this tide.
“When d’you think that he’ll come back?”
Not with this wind blowing, and this tide.
“Has any one else had word of him?”
Not this tide.
For what is sunk will hardly swim,
Not with this wind blowing, and this tide.
“Oh, dear, what comfort can I find?”
None this tide,
Nor any tide,
Except he did not shame his kind —
Not even with that wind blowing, and that tide.
Then hold your head up all the more,
This tide,
And every tide;
Because he was the son you bore,
And gave to that wind blowing and that tide!

We bow in honor.
A lovely tribute, and well deserved by all who served. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for this moment of remembrance.
Beautiful. Thanks for posting this.
Oh! I've been discovering Kipling's poetry lately. Seal Lullaby has always been one of my favorites. This one is new to me and is powerful. My nephew just returned from deployment last month, and I'm so glad the tide brought him home safe. Thanks for sharing this.
